Mites are animals invisible to the naked eye, belonging to the family of arachnids that feed on dead epithelial cells, can proliferate in any environment of our house but in humid environments such as the bedroom, where they often nest in the folds of the cushions, between the fibers of the sheets, in the mattresses, on curtains and rugs.

These animals produce fecal deposits responsible for allergies, red eyes, asthma attacks, allergic rhinitis, and itching. In the following guide, you will find 10 ways to get rid of mites from your children’s bedroom.

1. Purchase anti-mite spray

There are numerous anti-mite sprays on the market that can be sprayed on furniture, beds, cushions, and rugs without staining. They are products equipped with active ingredients that immediately destroy mites; they must be used frequently in a ventilated environment.

2. Use natural remedies

If you want to avoid using chemicals, you can use natural remedies. You will need a bottle to spray a mixture consisting of half a cup of alcohol, half of the demineralized water, and 30 drops of essential oil. Alternatively, you can diffuse essential oils into any fragrance rooms every day; they will destroy mites and give a pleasant aroma to the environment.

3. Use the vacuum cleaner frequently

Constant cleaning of the bedroom prevents and eliminates the proliferation of mites. Often used the vacuum cleaner, especially on carpets and rugs, since, in addition to making your work faster, it retains dust and mites in a greater percentage than other cleaning methods.

4. Air the environment

As previously explained, the mites look for humid environments, infiltrating, especially the cushions and fabrics in general. Open the windows once a day for at least 20 minutes to air the room and the furnishings. This prevents their formation and eliminates the existing ones who will find an unfavorable environment for their development.

5. Clean the cushions

The cushions are among the objects that collect the highest percentage of mites. For this reason, at least every two weeks, they should be left in the sun for a few hours and then put in the washing machine at 60 degrees to ensure the complete elimination of microorganisms. Make sure they are well dry before making the bed.

6. Dry the laundry in the sun

When you do your laundry before changing the sheets, blankets, and pillowcases on your bed, make sure that they are left in the sun for a sufficient amount of time, avoiding that wet parts remain, which may favor the appearance of the mites. These do not bear the very high temperatures that kill them, just as they do not survive the coldest ones.

7. Use dehumidifiers

If the rooms in your home are excessively humid, the mites are likely to present in the bedroom and the other rooms. For this reason, equip yourself with dehumidifiers that can absorb moisture. This method prevents their appearance and kills the existing ones.

8. Wash the laundry at high temperatures

Mites cannot stand high temperatures, so if you want to eliminate them from sheets, pillows, curtains, and rugs, washed in the washing machine at temperatures not lower than 60 degrees, this operation must be repeated at least once a week.

9. Clean the mattress

The mattress is the main object of your bedroom where mites nest, experts recommend replacing it every 10 years, but you should not forget to clean it constantly. To eliminate mites, vacuum the surface and disinfect it with the appropriate sprays at least once a month. Remember in the morning not to immediately make the bed allow the sheets and mattress good ventilation.

10. Use antistatic clothes

In addition to the constant use of the vacuum cleaner, use antistatic clothes that can better retain dust and mites than brooms and dusters for your cleaning. Steam cleaning is indicated for the complete elimination of these microorganisms with masks during cleaning to avoid allergies and respiratory problems.
