How to Clean an Acrylic Rug

DuPont developed the acrylic rug in the mid-20th century as an alternative to wool. During the 1960s, this rug achieved its popularity due to its low prices and quick drying. However, its popularity began to decline as consumers found it did not fare well in high-traffic areas; today, very few producers of these rugs.

But the unique properties of acrylic rugs still make them a good choice for certain low-traffic environments such as the bathroom since they can wipe away moisture easily. If you choose to use such a carpet, it is important to know how to clean it. So let’s see how to clean an acrylic carpet.

The carpets can be of various sizes and when it comes to huge ones, moving them in the open air or beating them becomes impossible. Therefore, devices that remove the accumulated dust and dirt are indicated, without this freeing in the air compromising the respiratory tract.

Carpets are among the most delicate and often the most expensive accessories. Still, an optimal treatment prolongs their life, and it is always a good idea to follow the instructions supplied with the purchase or indicated on the labels attached.

Vacuum dust regularly at least once a week to keep the coat in good condition. Each zone should be passed at least 5 times, even when using powerful appliances.

If you want to refresh your beloved carpet without ecological damage, you can use a low-cost and highly effective remedy because it will eliminate mites and parasites while reviving the colors. It will be sufficient to sprinkle the entire surface with baking soda and leave for 20 minutes, then vacuum.

When acrylic rugs require total washing, they can be placed in the washing machine at low temperatures and treated with a specific soap; if they are large, you can go to a trusted laundry.

You can try to remove the stain with a stain remover or a solution of Marseille soap and water, avoiding as much as possible the use of chemicals that could damage synthetic fabrics.

Moisten the stain and shake with a cloth soaked in the solution, foam lightly and then pass and go over the spot until the soap residue is eliminated. Dry with a hairdryer at a cold temperature.
