How to clean Mattresses and Pillows with Baking soda

The hygiene of your home is something fundamental for our health. The bed is one of those places where we spend a good part of our life. Suffice it to say that a third of our existence is spent sleeping. Therefore, its cleaning becomes fundamental and of primary importance. In this guide, we will observe how to clean mattresses and pillows with baking soda.

Needed: Baking soda, Vacuum cleaner, Brush, Sieves or, Cloth, Floor beater.

To properly clean the mattresses, it is necessary to remove all types of covers. In addition to the sheets, also remove the mattress cover. Beat the surface vigorously with a carpet beater. A fair amount of dust will rise into the air.

Especially during the winter season, you will most likely also find small wads and lint due to contact with plaids and woolen cloths. Scrub the top of the mattresses with the brush, scraping more insistently in the corners and seams.

Continue to clean the mattresses by vacuuming now. You will eliminate a good part of accumulations of dust and mites.

You have to sprinkle the entire surface with baking soda, forming an even layer. Level the white powder with your hands and make sure it covers every part. Let the baking soda work for several hours, preferably for a day.

Avoid drafts if possible. The baking soda will end up moving on the furniture and the floor. After the indicated time, scrape the mattresses again with the brush. Be careful not to spill the baking soda outside the area to be cleaned.

With a damp and well-wrung cloth, collect the baking soda. Rinse the cloth and repeat the same procedure. Continue until all the baking soda is removed. Carry out the same procedure also on the lower part of the mattresses.

Transport the mattresses to the balcony or terrace and leave them in the open air for half a day. Obviously, some bicarbonate residues will remain. Therefore, to eliminate all traces of the fine dust, use a vacuum cleaner. To clean the cushions, repeat the same treatment indicated above.

For proper bed hygiene, mattresses should be cleaned at regular intervals. The cleansing of the mattresses must be done at least at each change of season. At this point, I wish you good work. However, I recommend doing this cleaning on a fairly regular basis.
