Tips for Cleaning Teak Furniture

Teak is a very precious wood, especially the Asian one is more renowned than the African one, as it meets all the standards of excellence that this wood offers. Among the main characteristics of teak, we find a perfect water repellency for water and is robust. It is not even affected by moths. We think that teak is used in the nautical sector to construct boats and is also used to pave saunas, showers, edges of outdoor swimming pools, etc.

Naturally, teak is also used to make beautiful furniture, especially those for bathroom furnishings, as they must be particularly resistant to water and humidity in the environment itself. To keep this precious teak furniture in excellent condition for a long time, we will have to use simple but specific systems to clean it. Let’s see a list of 5 tips for cleaning teak furniture.

Dust with a soft cloth

To remove the dust that settles on the furniture, use a soft cotton cloth and wipe it gently on all surfaces. If the wood has veins, which are often the characteristic of teak furniture, we pass the cloth respecting the veins’ direction, carefully avoiding rubbing in other directions or directions.

It is a resistant wood, but the grain and colors must be safeguarded, as they are more delicate, and they must be treated appropriately. Even a brush or a brush with soft and natural bristles can be perfect for dusting teak furniture.

Clean with a sponge cloth

Once we have removed the dust and any other dust that will need to be removed, we move on to the cleaning phase also with water. We dip a sponge cloth in warm water, squeeze it and pass it on the furniture’s surfaces to be cleaned. We always tend to follow the grain’s direction during the cloth passage without rubbing the wood in other directions.

Use mild soap

Once in a while, especially on the surfaces where we place the bottles of the various products, the soap dish, the sponge, the toothpaste, etc., we must use a neutral detergent in addition to lukewarm water.

First, dilute a few drops of a specific neutral detergent soap for cleaning in a little warm water. Then, proceed in the usual way, dipping the sponge cloth and passing it in the veins’ direction. I will do the next step only with lukewarm water. In this way, we will also have removed the little soap we used.

Use a specific product for wood.

If we have to insist a little bit on cleaning, as the furniture surfaces need a more thorough cleaning, perhaps because some stains have formed and must be removed, we will have to use a specific product for washing wood at this point.

In the supermarket, we find it in shops that deal with household cleaning products and even paint shops. So let’s follow the instructions on the package and dilute a small amount in warm water and clean with the sponge cloth as we have indicated in the previous steps.

Wipe dry with a dry cloth

Whether we have used the sponge cloth only moistened with water, or that we have washed the furniture with a specific product, in the end, to complete the cleaning work, we will have to dry the parts of the furniture that we have washed. An old terry towel or another dry cotton cloth will be excellent and always passed, respecting the furniture’s grain.
