How to clean a cast-iron stove

The cast-iron stoves are really excellent heating systems since once they are perfectly lit, they produce a strong heat; unfortunately, cast iron takes longer than other metals to heat up and takes longer to cool down.

The Cast-iron stoves are commercially available in large and medium sizes; moreover, they can be simple or equipped with a hob. IS? It is important to carry out accurate maintenance, so here is how to clean a cast-iron stove.

Needed: Degreaser, lemon, white vinegar, sponge, chamois cloth.

Make a do-it-yourself abrasive paste with baking soda, mix 1/2 cup baking soda with a couple of tablespoons of hot water in a small bowl. Adjust the ratio of both until you get a spreadable paste. Roll out the dough over the entire surface of the stove. Let it sit overnight for at least 12 hours.

Use a plastic or silicone spatula to help you scrape the dough. Spray a little vinegar on the cast-iron surface: place the vinegar in a spray bottle and spray it everywhere. The vinegar will react with the baking soda, forming a degreasing and delicate foam simultaneously.

Take a damp cloth and clean the frothy mixture. Repeat this process until you have removed all the residue from the dough. Put water and vinegar on the cloth (as an alternative to vinegar, you can use lemon) to polish the stove.

Another method of cleaning a cast-iron stove is to take a brush or a dry paper towel and remove the dirt on the surface. Spray the stovetop generously with a mixture of equal parts of vinegar and water; let stand for about a minute. Clean the solution with a clean cloth or paper towel.

If the stove is particularly dirty, especially where the chimney is present, take the dish soap and place it on a small brush (a toothbrush is ideal for this technique). Rub the brush on the cast iron surface with small circular movements and rinse with cold water, using a chamois cloth.

If the stove is large and has a hob, remove the burners (lift them upwards, remove them easily), and remove any residues in the holes with a small pin or needles. Wash the burners in hot water with a degreaser, dry them well and install them again.
