How to remove cobwebs from the balcony

During house cleaning, we are mainly concerned with removing dust from furniture and floors. A healthy environment guarantees a more pleasant and safe home life. Dusting and washing the surfaces is fundamental to guarantee this condition.

But let’s try to move the nose upwards and check the corners of the ceiling … They are often a refuge for spiders, which with their cobwebs build a nest right above our heads.

This also applies to exteriors, to balconies. Exposure to the outside favors the proliferation of the problem. How to remove the cobwebs from a balcony, then? We will find out in the next steps.

Needed: Vacuum cleaner, clean cloth and long stick, repellent for spiders and arachnids.

To remove the cobwebs, it is necessary to work in daylight. As we know, cobwebs are not particularly visible. In low-light conditions, we could leave some traces of cobwebs in the most difficult corners. A first solution, fast and effective, is that of a vacuum cleaner.

If we have a light vacuum cleaner or an extension tube, removing the cobwebs will be a piece of cake. We pass the pipe along with the balcony’s corners, increasing the power for the most inaccessible corners. If any trace remains, we pass a damp rag over the residues.

Another solution, more classic and silent, is that of the cloth on a stick. We can use that of the broom-like any other stick of a certain length. It is useful for both top corners and bottom corners. In the first case, it allows us to reach considerable heights. In the second case, it saves us the trouble of bowing.

We will have to wrap a cloth around the end of a stick. To remove the cobwebs, we pass the cloth along with the dirtiest corners. Anti-static dust cloths may also be useful. They have the ability to attract cobwebs to themselves, increasing the effectiveness of our intervention.

We can adopt some ” preventive strategies ” against the formation of spider webs. We can spray some spider repellents in the corners of the balcony. In this way, we will avoid that small animal build a house on our balcony.

There are also some natural fragrances little appreciated by spiders. Lavender is one of them, a delicious perfume for us but very bad for the spider. Eucalyptus also appears to be effective in keeping spiders and some of them alike away. Some autumn fruits, such as chestnuts, can also help keep spiders away from our balcony.

Note: We do not use potentially toxic chemical repellents for us and pets if the balcony is often frequented by children and / or dogs and cats.
